Navatkuli SLA Commander to appear in Court[TamilNet, Wednesday, 21 July 2004, 01:50 GMT]Captain Duminda Kepattipola who was in charge of the Navatkuli Sri Lanka Army (SLA) camp will appear in Chavakachcheri Court when a case related to 1995-1997 disappearances in Jaffna is scheduled to begin hearing, local media in Jaffna reported. Sri Lanka Army attorney, Kuruppu, informed the Courts Tuesday that he is making arrangements to bring Cap.Duminda to the Courts on 29 July when the hearing is scheduled. Meanwhile, a group of intellectuals from Canadian Universities is visiting Jaffna Thursday to conduct research into the families affected by the disappearances in Jaffna during 1995-1997. Attorney Remedius who filed the disappearnce charges said that this group is interested in talking to family members of those disappeared. Attorney Remedius has appealed to the families interested in meeting the Canadian group to meet him at the Attorney's Offices at Jaffna Court premises Thursday 10 a.m. Amnesty International said in 1997 that as many as 600 people who "disappeared" in the Jaffna peninsula after the Sri Lankan Army moved into the area in 1996, "died under torture or been deliberately killed."
