Training for unemployed graduates

One hundred fifty two graduates selected from the Trincomalee district in
the first phase of the graduate employment scheme of the United People’s
Freedom Alliance (UPFA) began their three months training with the
inaugural event held in Trincomalee Town Hall Thursday.
Trincomalee district parliamentarian Messrs R.Sampanthan and K.Thurairetnasingham,
(both are from the Tamil National Alliance) and Mr Jayantha Wijesekara,
Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) parliamentarian participated in the event. Dissident Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) parliamentarian of the district Mr.Najeeb Abdul Majeed did not
attend the event.

The Government Agent and District Secretary of the Trincomalee district Mr.
Gamini Rodrigo presided. He said 152 graduates would be divided into four
groups and Sinhala medium computer training will be provided at Trincomalee
Vidyaloka Vidiyalayam and Tamil medium training at Trincomalee technical
College, he added. Trincomalee district parliamentarian Mr.R.Sampanthan said Singapore and Sri
Lanka gained political independence fifty-five years ago. But Singapore
attained economic and political stability because of its broadminded
policies. Sri Lanka has been suffering with debts and economic instability
because of its narrow-minded policies. JVP parliamentarian Mr.Jayantha Wijesekara, TNA parliamentarian
Mr.K.Thurairetnasingham and former parliamentarian Mr.M.K.A.De.S.
Gunawardene also spoke.
