UNICEF funded maternity ward opened in Trinco hospital

Dr.Ashok Nigam, UNICEF Regional Planning Officer, Regional Office, Nepal Thursday afternoon declared open the reconstructed maternity ward in the Trincomalee General Hospital built with the financial support of the UNICEF.

Earlier Dr.Nigam unveiled the name board of the postnatal ward of the hospital, which was refurbished by the UNICEF at a cost of Rs: 850,000. Financial support from UNICEF enabled the hospital to add 22 new beds to the post natal ward, buy additional basic medical equipment and also train staff at the Castle Street Hospital in Colombo, hospital sources said. UNICEF also donated three computers with printers and other accessories to three Medical Officer of Health (MOH) divisions of Kuchchaveli, Kinniya and Kantalai during the event. UNICEF Trincomalee zone head Ms Gabriele Elroy participated in the event.

with any facilities assigned for a general hospital. He appealed to the
UNICEF to provide assistance to Trincomalee general hospital to fulfill the
urgent medical needs of the patients who come from various parts of the
district.
