Under world killings continue in South

Two members of a suspected underworld gang were shot dead by Police officers manning the check point in Piwatte near Panadura in Colombo Saturday evening, police sources said. They allegedly hijacked a motorbike in Wadukka, 20km south of Colombo, and had passed through the checkpoint when Police officers gave chase and opened fire.
The gang threw a grenade at the police officers but it failed to explode, police said. Other members of the gang who followed the two in the motobike escaped. Deputy Inspector General, Mr. Indra De Silva said that police is conduction investigations on the incident. There were two other killings related to gang activity one one on 12 Septemebr and another in Borella on 18 September, police sources said.
