Three shot in Welikanda, Polannaruwa

Tension prevailed in the Welikanda, 65 kilometres northwest of Batticaloa after unidentified gunmen shot dead two Muslims in the area on Tuesday night around 7. The two men, Mr. K.M Kuththoos, 47, and Mr. N.M Segu Mohammad, 35, were returning from Polannaruwa to their village, Athugala, when they were shot dead, Police said. Welikanda is a border town in the Polannaruwa district.

Meanwhile, on Monday, unidentified gunmen shot and wounded a mill worker in Polannaruwa town.

The man, Mr. K. Rajan, was in the rice mill in Muslim Colony in Polannaruwa town where he is employed when gunmen shot him, Police said.
