About five thousand families undergo hardships without medical facilities in their village Maruthankerni in Vadaramadarachchi east division in Jaffna district as the opening of the rural dispensary constructed with the funds allocated by the North East Community Restoration Development (NECORD) Project is being delayed due to the lethargy of provincial health ministry officials, civil sources complained.
Villagers now have requested the health authorities to organize a
dental mobile clinic in Maruthankerni, sources said. In the meantime, education officials have requested the authorities
concerned to construct teachers' quarters in schools located in
Maruthankerni education division which is in the LTTE held area, sources said. The destroyed teacher quarters in Uduthurai, Vettilaikerni villages have already been reconstructed. Action has been taken to renovate damaged teacher quarters in schools located in Chempianpattu and Aaliyawalai. Parents of Maruthankerni Hindu Vidiyalayam and Thalaiyadi Roman Catholic Tamil School have now requested the education authorities to repair damaged teacher quarters, sources said.
