School to reopen after health scare forced closure

Poonthottam Educational Institute in Vavuniya district which was closed for more than a week after several teachers and students fell sick due to several health code violations at the school, is to open this Monday, Head of the School, Mr. Bernard announced. Students are asked to report to their school dormitaries by Sunday, according to school officials.
More than 70 students and teachers at the Insitute were either admitted to or received treatment at the Vavuniay General Hospital and Private Medical Establishments in Vavuniya when severe case of dysentry broke out. Vanni district Parliamentarian Sivanathan Kishor and Officials of the LTTE Vavuniya district Political Wing intervened and with the assistance of district health officials inspected the premises and took corrective action for serious health code violations at the School. Health authorities, Wednesday, after reviewing the health procedures and proper cleanup of the premises approved the reopening of the school.
