[TamilNet, Monday, 25 October 2004, 15:37 GMT]
International Organisation for Migration (IOM) officials recently held a
discussion with forty Tamil refugee families who returned from India about
their rehabilitation in their villages in Trincomalee district. IOM has
been implementing a scheme with the financial assistance of the Government
of Australia to rehabilitate the returnees from India.
Second batch of refugees from India returned last week was invited by the IOM
for a briefing session at its office located along Lower Road, Orrs' Hill,
and Trincomalee, sources said. These IDP families were briefed how to obtain birth certificates for the
children born in Indian refugee camps, marriage certificates for those
wedded in camps and death certificates, the sources said. Mr.Muralitharan, Project officer of the IOM and several others also spoke. IOM has already provided assistance to 62 IDP families returned from
India, the sources said.
