Jaffna-Pannai road is to go under sea due to erosion[TamilNet, Tuesday, 16 November 2004, 17:24 GMT]Due to neglect and lack of maintenance by the Road Development Authority the Pannai road which links Jaffna mainland with islets, is in the verge of going under sea between Pannai and Allaipiddy due to sea erosion, civil sources said. Several roads, which link Kayts, Pungudutivu and Mandaithivu, and also lead to Kurikadduwan jetty, which connects islets, Nedunthivu, Analaithivu and Nainathivu by ferry service are also in a state of disrepair, civil sources said. Meanwhile, representatives of the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) in Jaffna Tuesday inspected the Pannai road. Later they met with residents of islets. Residents said the Pannai Bridge temporarily repaired by the relevant authorities is also in the verge of collapse. Human Rights Commission officials are said to be in contact with Road Development Authority (RDA) officials regarding the repairs of the bridge, sources said.
