Trinco Campus launches first external degree programme

Trincomalee campus of the East University has inaugurated its first External Degree Programme on two disciplines, B.Sc (Management) and B.A (Communication). The inauguration of the programme and introduction of applicants was held Friday evening at the conference hall of the Trincomalee campus with Rector, Rev Dr.C.P.Rajendram in the chair.

About one hundred persons employed in various public and private sector agencies and non-employees have enrolled themselves to follow three-year period external degree courses, which will be conducted in English medium. The courses would start on January 5 next year, according to Mr.M.Karunanithi, Co-ordinator of the External degree Programme and also a senior lecturer in Management Faculty of the campus.

Rector Dr.Rajendram said for the internal degree courses of the campus eighty percent of students have come from other districts in the country. Few have applied from Trincomalee district. He appealed to the people of Trincomalee district to utilize the opportunity given by the external degree programme to maximum for their development of education.

Mr.T. Pirapaharan, Dean of the Faculty of Business Management and Communication of the Campus said that Trincomalee campus is the only one in the island, which has been allowed to conduct an external degree programme by the University Grants Commission (UGC). At the commencement of the event the Rector, Campus Dean, Lecturers and officials and representatives of students enrolled for the external degree courses lit the traditional oil lamp.
