Tokyo Donors recognise UPFA' inability to rein in JVP - Thinnakural Daily

In its most recent editorial, the Tamil news daily Thinnakural has welcomed the joint statement issued by the representatives of the co-chairs of the Tokyo Donor Conference, after their meeting with the Sri Lankan President. Hailing the timing of the meeting to coincide with the visit of the Norwegian Special Envoy, Mr. Eric Solheim, to Sri Lanka, the editorial pointed out the long history of JVP's antagonism towards the Norwegian role in the peace process and the inability of the President's UPFA to rein in the contrary view and hostile activities of the JVP.
"Now that the co-chairs have identified the problems within the ranks of the government and its inability to move forward the peace process, the response of the UPFA and JVP to this situation would be crucial to the salvage of the peace process" the edit opined. The current stalemate could ignite into full scale resumption of war, the editorial warned. The co-chairs reiterated their support for the Norwegian Facilitation of the peace process and called on the President Wednesday to tackle the JVP to avoid contradictory positions withing the ruling UPFA government.
