Central province blasts

Two transformers at Hatton, a town in the Central Province's Nuwara Eliya District, were extensively damaged by explosions around 4:00 a.m. this morning, said sources in Hatton. One of transformers is located at Malliappuwa and the other at Dunbar Road.

Both locations come under the Hatton police area. The Nuwara Eliya police are investigating, but no further details are known.

Explosions have been occurring in the towns in the Nuwara Eliya and Badulla Districts in the past few months.

Almost on every instance transformers have been targeted.

Transformers at Hatton, Bandarawela and Badulla towns have damaged by explosions.

Though the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) has been blamed for these explosions, no conclusive evidence to this effect has yet come to light.
