Dutch Ambassador, EU official meet Thamilchelvan

Ms. Susan Blankhart, H.E. The Ambassador for The Netherlands and European Commission’s Charge d’Affaires Mr. Wouter Wilton expressed their condolences and their "solidarity to the people of the region in distress and bereavement" when they met with the Liberation Tigers' Head of the Political Division, Mr.S.P.Thamilchelvan at the Peace Secretariat Tuesday morning, sources from Vanni said.

Mr.P.Nadesan, Head of Tamil Eelam Police also participated in the discussions.

Thamilchelvan solicited the support of the EU and the international community in ensuring equitable distribution of relief aid to the Tamil people. He also expressed his appreciation to the co-operation extended by International NGOs and the UN Institutions along with Tamil Rehabilitation Organization (TRO) and CBO’s in immediate humanitarian delivery to the affected people in the NorthEast..

Thamilchelvan also expressed his concern on the deployment of Sri Lanka troops in humanitarian delivery in the Tamil dominated welfare centers, sources said.

Responding to the issue of co-operating with the Government of Sri Lanka in instituting confidence building measures to take the peace process forward, Thamilchelvan said the LTTE has, through the good office of the facilitators, conveyed its willingness to do so but has not been suitably responded yet. Demonstration of sincerity, commitment and fairness, the LTTE political head said, should be demonstrated by actions, Thamilchelvan told the officials.

The Ambassador and the EU Official are expected to visit welfare centres in Mullaittivu later Tuesday, sources said.
