Vavuniya blast said accident

SLA officials in Colombo said an accident caused the explosions at the Vavuniya SLA camp this afternoon. The explosions began at 12.45 p.m. One SLA soldier was wounded in the explosion and a SLA truck was burnt in the fire caused by the explosions.

Smoke could be seen from much of Vavuniya town, said sources there.

Shops were closed and streets emptied as people panicked fearing a major attack on the SLA camp was underway.

The security was tightened in Vavuniya this morning following information that a Tiger motorcycle fixed with explosives had entered Vavuniya.

The special Task Force (STF) of the Sri Lankan Police manned several check points in the town and searched vehicles.
