Unidentified man killed in confrontation

An unidentified man, suspected to be a member of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), was killed and a soldier of the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) injured in a confrontation at Sivappupaalathady in Aarankal in the Kinniya area, 15 km south of Trincomalee on Friday night, said sources in Trincomalee.

The body was brought to Trincomalee Base Hospital. There was a tag around the neck of the dead man with the letters TVP, but no other identification marks.

The corpse is still lying at the hospital unclaimed and unidentified, said sources.

The Acting Magistrate of Trincomalee Mr. A C Hajju Mohammed is to conduct the inquest on Wednesday.
