Seminar on education of war children

A seminar is in progress at the Pastoral House in Trincomalee on how the estimated 10,000 children in the areas controlled by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), who are unable go to school due to the war, can be educated, said sources at the Ministry of Education inTrincomalee.
The seminar which began on Sunday and will go on till Tuesday was opened by K.Kandasamy, Provincial Director of Education, Ministry of Education, Sports and Cultural Affairs of the Northeastern Provincial Council. The seminar is funded by Save the Children's Fund (SCF) an international donor agency specialising on children. There is a increasing focus on children affected by war this week with Olara Otunnu, United Nations Special Representative of Children Affected by Armed Conflict, visiting Sri Lanka and expected to familiarise himself with the conditions of children affected by war in the Northeast.
