WHO aids CHC with medical supplies towards relief efforts

The Centre for Health Care (CHC), an NGO based in Kilinochchi, said that the World Health Organization (WHO) has come forward with donations of medical supplies to CHC relief efforts towards the Tsunami affected victims on Saturday. Dr. Kan Tun, the WHO Representative to Sri Lanka, presenting the donations to representatives of CHC Saturday at the CHC Head office in Kilinochchi has assured CHC that the WHO would consider aiding the training programme for psycho-social counsellors conducted by the centre, sources in Kilinochchi told TamilNet.

CHC representatives have submitted project proposals for WHO's consideration, sources added.

Dr. N. Sivarajah, WHO Consultant for NorthEast, was also associated with Dr. Kan.

Representatives of CHC included the President, Dr. T. Paskaran, and the Executive Director, Mr. N. K. Rathnam.

Also present at the event were heads of the local health departments, the Tamil Eelam Health Services (TEHS) and Dr Limalanathan from the Norwegian Tamils Health Organisation (NTHO) sources said.

The CHC, set up with the purpose of providing health services and coordinating health projects in areas of the North-East, is actively enaged in coordinating the medical relief efforts and the psychological assistance for the Tsunami affected victims.
