SLN stops school building construction in HSZ

refused permission to transport building material for the construction of a new building in Ponnalai Varathajaperumal
Vidiyalayam effectively halting the construction work, civil society sources in Jaffna said. The school is located in the high security zone.
Asian Development Bank (ADB) funded North East Community Restoration
Development
(NECORD) project allocated money for the construction of the new school
building and the work has been handed over to a private contractor, sources
said. SLN Soldiers in the naval checkpoint located in the forward defence line of
Ponnalai Thursday prevented the contractor from transporting building
materials to the site, sources said. Soldiers in army checkpoints in Tellipalai and Point Pedro are also not
allowing contractors from transporting building materials for construction
of school buildings, which are located in the HSZ, sources said.
