The Voice of Tigers radio in its night broadcast today confirmed that 10 Sri Lankan Policemen and one SLA soldier were killed when the Liberation Tigers attacked the Manatchenai camp at 64th mile post on the Muthur-Thoppur road yesterday. The Tigers did not suffer any casualties, it said.
The camp fell in to the hands of the Liberation Tigers in 20 minutes. The remaining Sri Lankan troops decamped, the radio said. The Tigers removed following weapons from the camp, according to the VoT: One 60 mm mortar with 11 shells, three 60 mm boosters, one AK light machine gun (AKLMG), ten T-56 assault rifles, 1300 rounds of ammunition, 12 grenades and one communication set. The radio also said that Ltd. Col. Vimal also known as Appan (Aarumugam Parameswaran, Kilinochchi) died Saturday afternoon, in a clash with the SLA in Soorangal in Trincomalee. Meanwhile, large number of SLA troops are being sent to the forward areas of the Operation Jeyasikurui since this morning, said sources in Vavuniya. The SLA officials, however, had not commented on movement of troops. Some explosions were heard in the main SLA camp in Vavuniya this evening around 7 p.m, believed to be the detonating of unexploded mortar shells scattered after yesterday's accidental blast in an ammunition dump, said sources.
