Jaffna to protest discrimination in relief delivery

Several civil groups in the Jaffna district Sunday decided to launch a series of agitation campaigns condemning discrimination shown in providing relief and other assistance to tsunami hit coastal areas in the Jaffna district, the killing of LTTE senior leader Mr.Koushalyan and others, and Sri Lanka government's lethargic attitude towards the formation of a joint mechanism to take forward the reconstruction and rehabilitation projects in the northeast, civil sources said.
Private Transport Owners' Association and Three Wheelers' Association have
decided to conduct a protest procession on Monday, 14 February. Lorries,
vehicles and three wheelers will participate procession that would conclude
in front of the office of the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM), which is
located in Temple Road, Nallur. A delegation of these associations would
later hand over a memorandum to the SLMM Jaffna head, sources said. Jaffna District Co-operators Federation is to conduct a protest march on
Tuesday, 15 February 15. The march would begin from Nallur Muththirai Santhi
and end in front of the SLMM Jaffna office, sources said. Jaffna District Fisheries Societies Federation has decided to conduct a protest march on February 23 with the support of all other civic
groups in the district, sources said.
