Jaffna transport sector holds protest march

Convoy of vehicles joined the Jaffna district transport sector protest march Monday condemning the discrimination shown by the government in providing relief to tsunami victims in coastal areas and the recent killings of LTTE Batticaloa Amparai district political head Mr.Kousalyan and former TNA parliamentarians Mr.A. Chandra Nehru, sources in Jaffna said.
 The march, which commenced around eleven in the morning from Muniyappar Temple in front of the Jaffna Fort, ended in front of the Jaffna office of the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM). The marchers went along the Point Pedro-Jaffna main road, sources said Hundreds of lorries, min-buses, three wheelers private hiring cars and other vehicles participated in the march bring the transport service in the town to a standstill. Police provided security for the protest march, sources said. Delegations of the Jaffna District Private Transport Service Associations' Federation and Jaffna Three wheelers' Association later handed over a memoranda to the Jaffna head of the SLMM, which was addressed to the head of the SLMM, sources said.
