Jaffna undergrads oppose private medical college

Medical students of Jaffna University Wednesday demonstrated
against Sri Lanka Government's decision to establish aprivate medical
college. Medical students boycotted classes and
participated in the protest held at Thirunelveli junction, sources said.
 Protesting students did not
obstruct traffic along the Jaffna-Palaly main road, sources said. The demonstration commenced around 11.30 a.m. and continued for about two
hours without any incident. Protestors carried placards demanding that Sri Lanka
Government abandon the proposal. Jaffna University Students Union
spokesperson said that the protest demonstration was organized to express
solidarity with the other medical student unions in the South of Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, the Jaffna University Medical Faculty issued a statement to
the media condemning the government's decision to recognize medical
degrees obtained in Russia.
