Displaced fishermen of Valigamam coastal villages inside the high
security zone (HSZ) and currently living in the villages of Polykandi,
Sakkotai and Supparmadam in Vadamaradchchi North are to launch a
protest campaign demanding they be allowed to resettle in villages from Valalai to Thondamannaru which border the HSZ, representatives
of fisheries societies said at a press briefing held Thursday night at the
office of the Vadamaradchchi North Fisheries Society.
They further said temporary shelters for the displaced located in Polykandi, Sakkotai and Supparmadam have been washed away
by tsunami and they have been displaced again. "We demand
that we should be allowed to resettle in villages bordering the
HSZ," said a representative. They further said that if the government fails to accept their request they would be forced to launch an agitation campaign.
