[TamilNet, Thursday, 07 May 1998, 23:59 GMT]
All heavy vehicles entering Colombo from southern part of the island will be checked for bombs and explosives and will be given security clearance at Kattubedde check point, 8 km south of Colombo, before they are allowed to proceed to the city.
The newly established Kattubedde check point, on the Galle road, began functioning as of yesterday. All heavy vehicles entering Colombo will have to obtain a security clearance certificate, stating the vehicle owner's name, his/her National Identity card number, the driver's driving license number, information about other passengers in the vehicle, date of entering and leaving Colombo and the vehicle's registration number, before they can proceed to Colombo. Sri Lankan Police suspects that vehicles that have been used in the recent attacks in Colombo were set up with explosives in other parts of the island before entering Colombo.
