Pre-school teachers in Trinco receive assistance

Pre-School Education Development Council (PSEDC) of the North East  headquartered in Killinochchi  distributed  bicycles to tsunami affected pre-school teachers and paid a compensation of fifteen thousand rupees  to the next of kin of  a pre-school teacher died in tsunami in the Trincomalee district on Monday and Tuesday, civil sources said.

Tamil Rehabilitation Organization (TRO) collaborated with PSEDC in providing financial support for the project, officials of TRO said. Bicycles were distributed to 20 pre-school teachers in Eachchilampathu  division on Monday and to 23 pre-school teachers of all communities in the  divisions of Trincomalee and Kinniya on Tuesday morning at an event held in  Al-Aqsa Maha Vidiyalayam. The sister of a pre-school teacher who died in  tsunami in Kinniya division was paid Rs: 15,000, sources said. Ms Jeya Thambiah, Assistant Director in charge of Pre-School Development  Unit in the North East Provincial Education Ministry presided over the  Kinniya event where many Muslim pre-school teachers were present. Tamil and  Sinhala pre-school teachers also participated in the event, sources said. Mr.S.Pandiyan, Director of the Pre-School Development Unit of the TRO  participated in both events.

Mr.M.Hithayathullah, General Secretary of the Kinniya Jamiethul Ulama  Council said that TRO has been working for the development of pre-school  education treating all communities. Ms. Jeya Thambiah said about 2800 pre-schools are functioning in the  northeast attending to 88 thousand children without government's assistance.  About one thousand pre-school students had died in tsunami disaster and  several pre-school teachers had also died in the natural disaster. TRO has  come forward to assist tsunami affected pre-school students and teachers. Mr.Pandiyan said the TRO has been helping the development of pre-school  education in the northeast without any difference towards any community.  Mr.S.Thavanathan, Assistant Director of Education (Pre-School Education)  and others also spoke.
