"None of the resources in this country can be preserved until the Sri Lankan Government declares the country as Buddhist", said Professor Nalin De Silva, while speaking at a meeting in Colombo, which was titled, "We will protect our race and resources," said sources.
"Material and manpower resources of the country are being destroyed in a subtle manner. Evil creatures will destroy the Sinhala race and the Buddhist religion. It is our weakness that allows them to operate thus. "Our first weakness is not to have built up an ideology basis for the Sinhala, Buddhist culture. We are takeing actions to solve this problem. "What we need now is a genuine and determined leadership. The present Government that has put forward a peace package launched large scale campagin to promote it. Sinhala papers also supported the package. But the peace package is finished. "However, the Government will try to implement the package. Let those Sinhala Buddhists interested in building up the strength of the Tamils on the basis of Hindu culture, work for it. But the Sinhala race will be destroyed by the year 2005 if things go on like this," he said. Prof. Nalin de Silva is the founder of the 'Jathika Chinthanaya', an influential ideological movement which argues that the Sinhala people should evolve an indigenous cultural and intellectual uniqueness and that the Tamils should be assimilated into Sinhala Buddhist culture. Dr. Silva is also the organiser of Chinthana Prasatha which is an activist arm of the Jathika Chintanaya. Dr. Silva was Professor of Mathematics in the university of Colombo. He resigned his job for full time work for the movement. He is a regular and prominent columnist in the English language Sri Lankan daily 'The Island' and the popular Sinhala daily 'Devaina'.
