Norway Tamils celebrate May Day

Several hundred Tamils in Norway, carrying Tamil Eelam national flags and banners urging the international community to recognize the Tamil people's right to self-determination, participated in May Day rallies held in capital Oslo and other major cities, organised by Confederation of Trade Unions, sources in Norway said. The participants also carried large photographs of murdered journalist Mr.D.Sivaram and banners condemning the
killing.
Placards displaying photos of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam leader, Mr.V.Pirapaharan, and placards with slogans "Recognize Tamils' right to self-determination", "Recognize Tamil people’s traditional homeland in the north-east," were widely seen in the processions. Participants also carried banners urging the Norwegian government to exert Pressure on Government of Sri Lanka to establish Joint Mechanism to help tsunami-victims in the North-east of the island. Rallies were also arranged in other major cities as Bergen, Stavanger and Trondheim, sources in Norway said. In capital Oslo, a memorial meeting was held for the Mr.Sivaram, Sunday evening. Several Tamil activists and friends of Mr.Sivaram spoke at the event.
