Veteran Tamil journalist felicitated

Mr.K.Velautham, 88-year-old veteran journalist from Tampalakamam, a
traditional Tamil village in Trincomalee district was felicitated for his
services for more than half a century. The event was
held during the weekend in Tampalakamam Kulakottan Tamil Vidiyalayam. Mr Velautham has
been reporting to Tamil daily newspaper Virakesari and writing novels and articles on topics of local interest.
Mr.K.Thurairatnasingham, Trincomalee district parliamentarian, honoured Mr.Velautham by presenting a golden shawl.

Two books, one on the life of Mr.Velautham and another a novel written by Mr.Velautham published by "Eelathu Ilakkiacholai" a leading publishing house in Trincomalee were
released at the event. Mr.Sithy Amerasingam, the publisher delivered the address during the book release. Another octogenarian, Mr.P.Kandiah, popularly known as Gandhi Master, handed copies of a Tamil novel written by Mr.Velautham and released at the event. Trincomalee Muthamil Valarkalai Mantram organized the event. Three others from Tampalakamam, one a native physician Mr.Ilayakutti Pechchimuthu, two carnatic musicians Messrs Kanapathipillai Mahalingam and Konamalai Shanmugaraja were also honored during the event. Leading citizens of the village presented them with golden shawls at the event. At the commencement of the event all four were taken to the venue in a procession with chief guest Mr.Thurairatnasingham, sources said.
Mr.Ilayakutty Pechchimuthu, Musicians Mr.K.Mahalingam and Mr.K.Shanmugaraja are honoured with golden shawls.
