Woman killed in Grenade attack on LTTE Batticaloa office

Mrs. Sinnathamby Annapillai (65) was killed Saturday 7.15 pm when unidentified men lobbed a grenade at the Periyakallaru LTTE political office located 500 metres from Special Task Force (STF) camp in Periyakallaru. There were no LTTE officials in the office at the time of the attack, sources said.

Mrs. Sinnathamby is the owner of the house used by the LTTE as their Batticaloa office.

Kaluwanchikudy Police is conducting the investigations.

LTTE officials have notified the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) of the incident, sources in Batticaloa said.

There was a similar attack on Veeramunai Political Office of the LTTE in Batticaloa on Friday when three LTTE cadres were injured in a grenade attack. The injured were admitted to the Batticaloa Hospital and are receiving treatement, hospital sources said.

Periyakallaru is located 30 km south of Batticaloa.
