Children's home conducts annual sports event

Kalaimagal Children's Home located in the Thorangandal village in Thunukai region held its annual sports event for more than 150 children being looked after during the day in the children's home Saturday, officials said. The Children's home is funded by the Switzerland based expatriate Tamil Rehabilitation Organization and administered by the Village Upliftment Project.

Ms M Paramanayagi, the Head Adminstrator of the Children's Home Presided the event. Thileepan Medical Unit official, Deva-anti, Administrative Officer for Village Upliftment Project Mr Kumaran let the ceremonial lamp. Director of Village Upliftment Project, Mr Kanthan, hoisted the Tamil Eelam national flag. Thunukai TRO co-ordinator Mr Navaneethan, Education Officer Mr Thamilanpan and Ms Paramanayagi hoisted the flags of their respective organizations before the start of the sportsmeet, sources attending the event said. Events for the children concluded at around 5.30 pm when prizes were awarded to winners. The Children's home assists nearly 400 families who earn a living doing day labor at nearby villages and the children's home has been assisting the families by looking after under school age children from ages 6 months till they are ready to attend school. The Children's home also looks after school going children from the time when school closes till the parents return home from work in the evening. Kalaimagal Home was opened in 1993.
