Cultural Centre to be established for Nilaveli children

An Inter-Cultural Sports Centre for children affected by the tsunami is to
be established in Nilaveli, north of Trincomalee district. This will be the
first in the a series of such centres to be set up in several parts of Sri Lanka under a Tsunami Relief Programme for affected children organized
and implemented by the Asian German Sports Exchange Programme (AGSEP) and
sponsored by the Peace Village International, sources said.
This programme is to assist these affected children to overcome the tsunami
experience, and to return to their normal life style, AGSEP sources said.
Indoor stadium, two Badminton courts, a soccer field, a swimming pool and
an adventure park are among the main features to be included in the first
Inter-Cultural Sports centre which is to be located in Nilaveli, AGSEP
sources said. The main building and seven other buildings will comprise the centre
complex, some of them will serve as 50-bed dormitory, a restaurant with
kitchen and staff quarters. The centre is expected to be opened in the
latter part of this year, sources said.
