New group to agitate for return of Thenmaradchi HSZ lands

Jaffna district residents formed a Special Action Committee (SAC) to work for the release of agricultural lands and houses now being occupied by the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) and located inside the high security zone from Eluthumaduval to Kilali in Thenmaradchchi division in Jaffna district, sources said.

The inaugural event of the SAC was held recently in Roman Catholic School in Mirusuvil with the participation of three Jaffna district parliamentarians Messrs N.Raviraj, K.Sivanesan, Padmini Sithamparanathan and M.K.Sivajilingam, sources said.

The SAC decided at its first meeting held the same day to issue an ultimatum to the security forces to hand over the agricultural lands and houses which are located inside the HSZ to their occupants on or before June 11, sources said.

If the initial attempt fails, the SAC said it would organize a mass agitation to force the government to hand over these lands and houses.
