NorthEast rural hospitals receive ambulances from NECORD

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) funded North East Community Restoration Development (NECORD) donated nine ambulances
worth about 30 million rupees to the North East Provincial Council (NEPC) to strengthen the health and medical services in rural hospitals. The handing over event took place at the NEPC Chief Secretariat premises Monday afternoon, sources said.

The ambulances, each costing about 3.4 million rupees, are being distributed to district hospitals (DH) of Killinochchi, Mullaitivu, Pallai and Murunkan, rural hospitals
(RH) in Killiveddi and Eachchilampathu and peripheral units (PH) in Poonagari, Mallavi and Vidathaltheivu, NECORD sources said. Mr.T.Lankaneson, NECORD Project Director handed over the keys of all nine ambulances to Mr.S.Rangarajah, NEPC Chief Secretary. Mr.Rangarajah in turn handed over the keys to Mr.Siriwardene, Provincial Health Ministry Secretary, sources said. Mr.Siriwardene thereafter handed over the keys to respective drivers of the nine selected NorthEast hospitals, sources said. Dr.V.Kumaravetpillai, NorthEast Provincial Director of Health Services and Mr.N.Puhendran, Deputy Project Director of the NECORD also participated in the event.
