Buddha statue attacked in Kalmunai

A one meter tall statue of Buddha located in Kalmunai Sinhala Maha Vidyalaya School at Pansala Road was damaged by unidentified persons who entered the school premises Saturday early morning between 2.00 AM and 4.00 AM, Kalmunai Police said.

A fresh Buddha statue would be brought from Amparai and installed, Police sources added.

Mr. S. P Seneveratne, Police ASP in Kalmunai, said that security has been strengthened in the area surrounding the school, following the incident.

Sinhala Mahavidylayam, established in 1970, is located 500 meteres from Kalmunai town.
