Tigers step up Jaffna activity

Six SLA soldiers were killed in four separate attacks n the Jaffna peninsula by the Liberation Tigers between May 12 and 16, said the Voice of Tigers (VoT) in its broadcast this evening.

The details of the attacks are follows:

Two SLA soldiers were killed and two wounded in Chunnakam on May 12 in a booby trap set out by the LTTE.

One SLA soldier was killed and one wounded in Sankathanai on May 14 in an attack on SLA sentry post.

One SLA soldier was killed in a claymore mine attack on Manipay-Uduvil road on May 16 around 11.30 a.m.

Two SLA soldiers were killed and two wounded in an attack on a SLA sentry post in Chavakachcheri at 12.00 noon on May 16.

Meanwhile, the Radio said that five LTTE fighters died in an accidental explosion in Pudavaikkaddu in the Trincomalee district on May 16.

Their names are Thanikaivaanan (Krishnarajah Puvanenthiran, Batticaloa), Maruthanambi, also known as Janah (Thabirasa Ranjithan, Baticaloa), Aavudayan, also known as Vinoth (Piratheepan, Trincomalee), Sittampalam (Ratnasingham Loganathan, Trincomalee) and Sivapiriyan (Balethiran Rasathurai, Jaffna).

The radio also said that two other LTTE fighters, Santheswaran (Balasubramanium Kalaichelvan, Udayaarkaddu) and Thamilpiriya (Subashini Balasubramanium, Trincomalee) died on May 17 in Mankulam and Nedunkerny respectively.

Meanwhile, the SLA sources in Vavuniya said that one LTTE member who tried to infiltrate the SLA controlled area of Nedunkerny in the early hours of them morning yesterday was shot dead.

The SLA said her name was Kanaka. Her body was handed over to the Sri Lankan Red Cross Society in Vavuniya this evening and will be brought to the LTTE controlled in the Vanni, said SLA sources.
