Haukland meets Trincomalee heads of SLN, SLA, and Police

Mr.Hagrup Haukland, Head of the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) Thursday afternoon met with Rear Admiral Vasantha Karanagoda, new Eastern Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy and Major General Sumith Balasuriya, General officer Commanding of the Sri Lanka Army in Trincomalee and held discussion regarding the ground situation of the district, sources said.

Rear Admiral Vasantha Karanagoda has assumed duties in Trincomalee as the Eastern Commander of the SLN with effect from July 1st. He has also been appointed as the Chief Co-ordinating Officer of the security of the Trincomalee district. Three armed forces and the Police come under the direct supervision of Rear Admiral Karanagoda, sources said.

Mr.Hagrup Haukland later met with Mr.Rohan Abeyagunawardene, Deputy Inspector General of Police (Eastern Region) and held discussion regarding several problems faced in the district. Mr.H.N.B.Ambanwela also participated in the discussion, sources said.

Mr.Hagrup Haukland is scheduled to visit Muttur Friday morning to meet LTTE Trincomalee district leaders in Sampoor in LTTE held Muttur East, sources said.
