Trinco security tightened following bomb explosion

A bomb exploded at Mudcove junction along Mattikalai road in Trincomalee town, around 9.30 p.m., Sunday. There were no casualties, police said. Meanwhile, top officials of the Sri Lanka Navy, Army and Police in Trincomalee held an urgent meeting Sunday evening to strengthen the security of the eastern port town following the Chelvanayakapuram killings, security sources said.
Rear Admiral Wasantha Karanagoda who assumed duties as the Commander, Eastern Naval Area and Co-ordinator in Chief of Security Forces and Police in the Trincomalee district on 4 July, immediately held discussion with army and police officials following the Chelvanayakapuram killings.

Mr.Rohan Abeyagunawardene, Deputy Inspector General of Police for the eastern regional is currently staying in Trincomalee, sources said. At that time of Chelvanayakapuram killings Rear Admiral Wasantha Karanagoda was attending the opening event of a newly built conference hall of the Trincomalee district secretariat along with the Senior Superintendent of Police Mr.H.N.B.Ambanwela. On receiving notification of the Chelvanayakapuram killings, Rear Admiral Wasantha Karanagoda and SSP Mr.Ambanwela left the meeting to attend to the security matters related to the incident, sources said.
