Methodist Church assists Kallady villagers

The Trincomalee Methodist Church distributed one million rupees worth household implements to 204 families and 500,000 rupees worth push cycles to 70 students in Kallady in Eachchilampathu division, who were afftected by tsunami that hit the village in December 2004.
Trincomalee Methodist Church officials further bought a six acre plot of land from villagers and handed over to education
authorities to construct a new building in the tsunami hit Ilankaithurai Muhathuwaram Government Tamil 'Vidiyalayam' (school) with the financial support of international non-governmental organization World Vision during the weekend, Rev.Terrence, Pastor of Trincomalee Methodist Church said. Sixty-four transition homes constructed by the Methodist Church with the funds provided by the German based charitable organization, KINDERNOTHLIF (KNF) were also handed over to beneficiaries, Pastor Terrence said.

The handing over of packages of household implements, each package worth about 6,000 rupees to beneficiary families and cycles to students took place at Kallady. Mr.Thangan, Eachchilampathu division LTTE political head presiding over the event thanked the Trincomalee Methodist Church for rendering immense assistance to affected children to continue their studies even amid sufferings in various forms due to war and natural disaster. Rev Terrence at the event handed over payments to owners who have sold their lands for the construction of new buildings in the tsunami-destroyed Ilankaithurai Muhathuwaram School.
