Elilan calls for eradication of child marriage

"Child marriage is still common in some areas in Eachchilampathu division. We are taking action to stop this social ill. It is the duty of every responsible citizen to eradicate this menace," said Mr.S.Elilan, LTTE Trincomalee district political head participating as the chief guest at the Women Confluence organised by the Eachchilampathu Women Development Organization Saturday.
Trincomalee District Fund for Affected Students collaborated in holding this event at Eachchilampathu Sri Senbaga Maha Vidiyalayam.

Mr. Elilan said child marriage has been a major problem in this division. LTTE has taken steps to educate the villagers in this regard. He appealed to women to extend their co-operation to the authorities to stop child marriages. More than one thousand women participated in the event.  Ms Kaaronja, speaking at the event
At the commencement Ms Kaaronja, LTTE Trincomalee district women political head hoisted the Thamileelam National Flag. Mr.Kanagasabai Thevakadachcham,
Founder President of the Trincomalee District und for Affected Students lit the traditional oil lamp. Ms Kaaronja said in her opening address that women in the northeast are facing several difficulties. Women should come forward to win their basic and fundamental rights. Mr. Thevadachcham also spoke. Workshops were held on themes: Women and Education, Women and Economy and Women and Health.
