Upcountry Youth Front held a meeting in Hatton in Nuwara Eliya district Sunday near the Hatton bus stand to express support for the Post-tsunami Operational Management Structure (P-TOMS) signed between the Government of Sri Lanka and the Liberation Tigers, sources in Hill country said. Although the meeting organizers had obtained permission to march from Mallikaipu Junction to the Hatton bus stand, Police withdrew the permit before the march was to begin, organizers said.
Provincial Council members Mr Arulsamy and Mr Thihamparam and Mr Sivalingam from Upcountry Peoples Front (UPF) addressed the meeting. Organizers said they were pleased to see youths from different trade union movements participating in the rally as a united front. The meeting also urged Government of Sri Lanka to urgently create conducive conditions to resume the stalled peace talks, sources said.
