Bhikku front holds convention against P-TOMS

The National Bhikku Front (NBF), an ultra Sinhala nationalist organization of Buddhist monks of Sri Lanka, held a special National Sanga (Monks) Convention against the Post -Tsunami Operational Management Structure (P-TOMS) at Bandaranaiake Memorial International Center Hall (BMICH) in Colombo Thursday evening. More than five thousand nationalist monks and their supporters attended the conference that urged all Sinhala nationalist forces to join hands in one platform against the scuttled P-TOMS deal.
Jantha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) Propaganda Secretary Mr. Wimal Weerawansa, Dr. Gunadasa Amarasekara and Dr. Priyasena Disanayake were invited as special guests and spoke at the event. Nationalists carrying Sri Lankan flags and Buddhist Monks marched to the Convention hall from Young Men's Buddhist Association (YMBA) building at Bauddhaloka Mawatha starting at around 2:30 p.m. The convention started at 3.30pm and went on for more than four hours. Leading monks, Ven. Bengamuway Nalaka thero, Ven. Sugathawansa thero, Ven. P. Madamgag thero, Ven. Dr. Dabara Amila threo, Ven. U. Sumanwansa thero, Ven.Allay Gunwansa thero, Ven. B. Upathissa thero, Ven. Yalaygama Dammissara thero and Ven. Kalweelaygala Chandraloka threo occupied prominent seats in the convention.
