SL President denounces Jaffna killings

Sri Lanka's President Ms Chandrika Kumaratunge Friday directed the relevant authorities to investigate Inuvil incident in Jaffna district where a Tamil civilian Mr.Santharoopan was shot dead by soldiers of the Sri Lanka Army and Jaffna Police Superintendent Mr. Charles Wijewardene by a crowd in retaliation. Kumaratunga has directed to bring the perpetrators to justice without delay, according to a media release issued by the Presidential Media Unit.
Ms. Kumaratunge has condemned the "unfortunate shooting incident" on Thursday [4th August] involving Army personnel near Inuvil in the Jaffna Peninsula. She has directed the relevant authorities to fully investigate Thursday's incident and bring the perpetrators to justice without delay, the media release said. Kumaratunge last night directed the Chief of Defense Staff Daya Sandagiri to convey her deepest sympathies to the bereaved families, it added. She has also said that the families of those who lost their lives will be paid a full compensation and that the Police Officer killed will be granted a posthumous promotion, the media release further added.
