No Jaffna team for 'mini-Olympics'

The Dean of the Jaffna University Arts Faculty Prof. A. Shanmugathas has announced that Jaffna University team will not take part in the inter university sports meet, which will held at Ruhuna University, in the southern province later this year.
Sri Lankan inter university sports meet are held every four year. Prof. A. Shanmugathan, the said that the decision was taken on recommendations by the University Finance Committee that there aren't enough funds for sending the Jaffna University team to Ruhuna. The decision of the Finance Committee which has come at a time the date for the this 'mini-Olympics' is drawing near, has given rise to doubts among the students, said university sources. They said that list of participants had already been prepared and training for them was ion progress. Students think that money is not the real reason for the cancellation, said sources. They said there is speculation that the University administration was following instructions from an armed group.
