Jaffna HR officials recommend legal action on torture complaint

The Jaffna regional office of the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) has recommended legal action against three prison guards employed in Jaffna prison on allegation of torturing a suspect while in remand. Jaffna Human rights officials have made the recommendation to their head office in Colombo.
Jaffna human right officials held inquiry into an allegation made by the father of the suspect Mr.Thevamanoharan Jatheeswaran of Market Road, Udupiddy that his son was tortured in the prison by guards. Mr.Jatheeswaran
was arrested by the Valvettithurai Police recently and remanded on the orders of court, sources said. Human rights officials recorded statements of the suspect-victim and suspected guards during the inquiry held in prison recently.
