Police constable shot in Kalmunai

A police constable, Mr. Farook, 35, was shot and injured Friday noon in Karaithivu, 48 kilometres south of Batticaloa. The constable was on duty at Vettuvaikalavai Bridge with two other police constables when the incident happened. The gunmen fired from a long distance, from an abandoned land, Police said.

Police constable Farook was admitted to Amparai Hospital with wounds in his leg, hospital sources said.

Sammanthurai Police is conducting investigations into the incident.
