Periyakallaru residents receive temporary tsunami housing

Tamil Rehabilitation Organization (TRO) handed over 190 temporary houses to tsunami affected residents of Periyakallaru, a coastal town located 30 km south of Batticaloa town, at a function presided by Batticaloa Director of TRO Mr Baskaran held at 3rd Division, Periyakallaru last week.
Mr Baskaran in his address said that TRO is also helping the village to improve its infrastructure facilities, help in rebuilding schools in addition to the the Housing Project. "The Divisional secretrary, Grama sevaka and the residents have co-operated with us in making the housing project a success. This encourages us to do more to the people of this village," said Mr Baskaran. The Divisional secretary said that TRO volunteers were the first to arrive in Periyakallar to rescue victims in the immediate aftermath of tsunami. TRO has continued to provide invaluable service to help the village from that time, he added. The Principal of the school of Hindu Ethics and the Head of the Administrative panel of Hindu temple in Periyakallaru also spoke. The meeting concluded with the vote of thanks by the local head of the Sarvodaya movement. Divisional Secretrary of Manmunai South-Eruvil, Mr.Adiriyan, Co-ordinater TRO Switzerland, Mr.Veerasingham, the Grama Sevaka of Periyakallaru, Planning Engineer of TRO, and several residents of the village participated at the function. TRO is a Sri Lanka Government registered non-Governmental Organization working mainly in the NorthEast of Sri Lanka.
