Tools of trade supplied to tsunami victims in Nilaveli

World University Service of Canada (WUSC) and Mercy Corps (MC), which has its headquarters in USA jointly, donated about 1.1 million rupees worth tools of trade
(TOT) for 142 tsunami affected persons in six Grama Niladhari (village level) divisions in Nilaveli which is located about 16 km off north of Trincomalee town at an event held in Nilaveli Tamil Maha Vidiyalayam on Wednesday.

The beneficiaries were trained under the Project for Rehabilitation through Education and Training (PRET) of the WUSC in thirteen trades- electrical wiring, motorcycle repair, tinkering, welding, masonry, carpentry, motor mechanism, bicycle repair, electrical appliance repair, outboard motor repair, agro-equipment repair, barber saloon and string hopper preparation. Ms Mary Heather White, Eastern Regional Field Director of the WUSC and Ms. Gretchen Ansorge, Mercy Corps Trincomalee Programme Officer participated as the guests and handed over the tools to beneficiaries. Mr. R. Manivannan, on the Job Training and Follow-up Officer for WUSC in Trincomalee presided. Mr. M. Pushparajan, WUSC Trincomalee District Programme Officer also attended the event. Mr.C.Mathialagan, Principal, Nilaveli Tamil Maha Vidiyalayam, and Mr.S.Satheesh, Rural Development Officer also spoke at the event.
