CWC, SLMC, UPF leaders to address UNP election rally

The United National Party (UNP) will hold a presidential election rally, the first to be held after handing in nominations, in the hill town of Kandy, Saturday evening. UNP presidential candidate Mr.Ranil Wickremasinghe with the leaders of the Ceylon Workers Congress (CWC), Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) and the Upcountry People's Front (UPF) will address the meeting, political sources in Kandy said.
Arumugam Thondaman (CWC), Rauff Hakim (SLMC) and Periyasamy Chandrasekaran (UPF) will attend prayers in places of worships of all faiths in Kandy before participating in the rally, UNP sources said. Mr.Tissa Attanayake, the Assistant Secretary of the UNP said,
Mr.Ranil Wickremasinghe is the presidential candidate of all communities in Sri Lanka. He has the support of Tamils of Northeast and upcountry and Muslims. No forces can prevent Mr.Ranil Wickremasinghe from becoming the President of Sri Lanka. Leaders of the parties who are supporting the candidature of Mr.Ranil Wickremasinghe are fully behind the election campaign and appear on the same platform regularly. But
Leaders of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) and
the Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) who have signed Memoranda of Understandings with Mr.Mahinda Rajapakse expressing their support will not attend jointly with Mr.Mahinda Rajapakse in any election platform, he said.
