Furuhovde arrives in Colombo

The Special Representative of the Norwegian Government and former Head of Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) Major General (Ret.) Trond Furuhovde arrived in Colombo Monday from Oslo to evaluate the current state of the ceasefire.
He was received at the Bandaranaike International Airport this morning by the present chief of the SLMM Hagrup Haukland. Gen. Furuhovde will meet the Sri Lanka Government leaders and the service commanders in Colombo to discuss matters related to the ceasefire and the current security situation in the North and East. Maj.Gen Trond Furuhovde will visit Killinochchi to meet the LTTE's political wing leader S.P.Thamilselvan on Wednesday. The discussion between Thamilselvan and Gen.Furuhovde is expected to be on adding further clauses to strengthen the ceasefire. Gen. Furuhovde who remains as a member of the Norway's facilitating team is expected to brief the Norwegian Government in detail on the current Sri lankan situation, sources said.
