Sri Lanka's Foreign Minister and the brother of SL President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunge, Mr. Anura Bandaranaike, slammed at the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna's (JVP) economic policy and their stance with regard to the scuttled P-TOMS at a press briefing held at his official residence Visumpaya Monday morning.
This was the first press meet Mr. Bandaranaike convened soon after his return from New York on Sunday. Mr. Bandaranaike speaking further on the JVP, the close ally of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party Presidential candidate Mahinda Rajapakse, said that the JVP's economic policy will not lead Sri Lanka towards prosperity. "JVP's suggestions and their approach to the country's economic upliftment are disasterous. JVP will not be able to lead Sri Lanka to become an economically prosperous nation in par with other developing countries," Mr. Bandaranaike said. Making his comments on the scuttled aid-deal he said that the P-TOMS was worked out to overcome the sufferings of the Tamils , Muslims and the Sinhalese living in the NorthEast. So by condemning the P-TOMS, JVP was obstructing solutions to humanitarian problems of the people of the North and the East. Mr.Bandaranaike after his arrival from New York wrote a letter to the Lankan Prime Minister and the Presidential candidate Mahinda Rrajapakse to reveal his stand on his alliance with the JVP and the JHU, informed sources said.
